For this lesson, students will learn through a video and powerpoint presentation how to cite in-text in APA format. Students will have an opportunity to practice citing in-text before citing in their own APA research paper.

For this lesson, students will learn how to cite in-text in MLA. They will watch a video, be directed to an easy to understand web page with citation examples, and even be able to complete a worksheet on citing in-text in MLA. Once students are done with this lesson, they will be ready to cite in-text in their own research paper.

For this lesson students will learn how to create a Works Cited page in MLA. They will watch a video, play games, and read a handbook to learn the many steps and processes required in a Works Cited page.

Students will learn why it is important to cite when writing. They will watch a video and look through a Prezi to learn how to cite their sources in APA. After they know the correct way to format their citations, they will work through a worksheets to identify sources that are formatted correctly. They will end the lesson by writing their own reference page for their research paper.

Before students read Out of the Dust or another novel that takes place during the Dust Bowl, students will gain background information on the Dust Bowl, Dust Bowl Migration, Mass Exodus, and Black Sunday. They will experience the Dust Bowl through a short video and pictures.

For this lesson students will learn the different parts of the elements of a story. They will be able to watch a catchy movie explaining the parts and apply their knowledge to an interactive website.

For this lesson, students will learn what theme is, understand what the most common themes are, and analyze the theme of short stories. As a final assessment, students will read a novel and write a 5 paragraph essay analyzing the theme.

Students will read through chapter 12 of The Giver where they find that the people in The Giver got rid of the ability to see color. First students will look at a variety of colors and determine what emotions the colors make them feel. Then they will each write about a color without giving the name of the color; the students in the class will need to guess the color. After that assignment, students will analyze how colors affect behaviors and emotions and critically determine why the people in the that world decided to make everyone see in black and white. Students will end the lesson answering the question "Why do you think we have color in our world?"

After students learn how jobs are selected in The Giver, they will critically analyze if they would like that process from themselves. Then they will observe classmates to determine an appropriate job for them. Once students receive their jobs for their classmates, they will reflect on the process.

After students have read through The Giver, they will learn about symbolism and find the ways the author used symbolism throughout the book. After they complete a chart on symbolism, they will create a symbol that describes themselves. They will present their symbol project through Voicethread.com.

Before students read The Giver, students will be given the opportunity to create their own Utopian community. First they will learn what Utopia means. Then they will work in groups in a Wiki or through google docs to create their community. They will end the lesson by reading accounts of others who actually tried creating Utopian communities and write a paper on the communities.

There is often a lot of confusion on when to use good vs well. This lesson will clear up the confusion! Students will watch a youtube video on this, play a game, and end the lesson with a writing assignment where they will show their mastery of the concept.

Students will learn about helping and main verbs through videos and a website. They will memorize the 23 helping verbs through the "Jingle Bells" tune. To practice identifying helping verbs, they have the opportunity to play games. They will end the lesson by writing a story as a group that contains helping and main verbs.

Either during or after the reading of Out of the Dust or another book that takes during the Dust Bowl, students will play the PBS Dust Bowl interactive activity. During the activity, students will pretend they are living in the states affected by the Dust Bowl. They will get to choose where they live and make decisions like whether or not to expand their farms or even move to California. After they find the results from their game, they will read other accounts of real people during the Dust Bowl. Then, using the results from the interactive activity, they will create their own Dust Bowl story, writing in first person and using correct historical details.

For this lesson, students will learn what linking verbs are through videos and a website. They will practice identifying linking verbs through online games. To end the lesson, they will write a paragraph about themselves using linking verbs.

For this lesson, students will learn how to write a mystery. They will be given a list of Nursery Rhymes and asked to create a mystery from the Nursery Rhyme. For example, Did Humpty Dumpty really fall off the wall or was he pushed? They will create a comic from their mystery.

After students have read Out of the Dust, they will create a Glogster. They will write about the theme, use their vocabulary words in writing, write using similes, metaphors, and personification in poetry, compare and contrast Billie Jo's experience to someone else in history, and be able to pick an option from a list. They will use their creativity to make their poster appealing to the reader.

For these lessons, students will be taken through a variety of activities to learn about plagiarism. They will learn what plagiarism is, the consequence for it, how to paraphrase writing, when to use direct quotes, and how to cite. This is a wonderful webquest for students to go through.

Through this lesson, students will be exposed to a variety of basic sight words or "popcorn" words. First they will watch a variety of videos to be introduced to the words. Then they will play a fun game on popcorn words. To end the lessons, students will identify their popcorn words.

For this assignment, students will review prepositions through an activity, a video, and a website. They will have an opportunity to prove their knowledge through a Quiz game and a worksheet. Once they understand how to write prepositions, they will end the lesson by using prepositions to describe a room in their house. They can share their assignment through Voicethread or a Padlet.
