Computer Science is the study of the capabilities and potential of computers and technology. Our mission is to help students learn how CS can be applied in all walks of life through creative computing. These skills are applicable in the top five industries in Detroit, and can lead to in demand technical careers.
Computer Science exposure in students’ academic careers has the potential to inspire the future generation of our workforce. CS education provides young people as early as elementary school with rich and rigorous content, inspiring students’ sense of curiosity, and giving them the tools and habits of critical thinking to understand the world around them.
The launch of CSforALL, as well as Quicken Loans’ commitment to supporting this work, has now led to the development of the CS for Detroit website that includes integrated computer science lessons by grade. These resources have been the focus of the CS for Detroit team and will be available for teachers of all core subject areas to use in their classrooms.
Over the last year, new standards in computer science have been adopted across Michigan. As a result, students are more likely to choose to pursue Computer Science college and/or career pathways that ultimately meet Detroit’s workforce needs.
CS for Detroit is committed to providing quality instructional supports and services leading to improved career and postsecondary education outcomes for all students.
