I made this a classroom project, so everyone participated. Also, it took way more than one hour since it is a 50% replica, however, I found this gave me the flexibity to teach a multitude of different lessons (scaling, coordinates, maps, satellite images, teamwork, etc.) in order for my classes to accomplish this lofty goal.

As a class, we wanted to work on a landmark together. The class voted to recreate the Grand Hotel on Mackinac Island. This hotel first opened in 1887, and offers its guests old-world hospitality and charm. The reason we chose this landmark was because in fourth grade we took a trip to Mackinac City and drove across the bridge. We wanted to create something that inspired us from our trip.
