Land Use Lesson 5 - Analyzing Land Use Changes : State

The following resources from the State of Michigan present information about land use and stewardship. People sometimes designate that the land they own be used for a particular purpose. Through such programs as the Farmland and Open Space Preservation Program, the Michigan Farm and Ranch Lands Protection Program, and Michigan Farmland Protection under the Conservation Fund. Each of those programs provides opportunities for people to preserve farmland for future generations. The giving of land for future generations is an important part of the larger efforts to achieve stewardship. Giving land and setting land aside for future generations is an important act of philanthropy. Many local communities have parks that were given by people who once owned the land or gave money to help conserve important places in the community. As a result of giving, the land use is reserved for purposes that often benefit the entire community.
