Ecosystems and Biodiversity Lesson 10 : Michigan's Threatened Species

Students become familiar with threatened and endangered plant and animal species of Michigan. Students learn what it means to be listed as threatened or endangered, common causes for being listed, and the role of government and individuals in protecting biodiversity. As an optional extension, students research one threatened or endangered Michigan species and communicate their findings on a poster.

Students answer the two essential questions: What plant and animal species are threatened in Michigan and near our community? Whose responsibility is it to protect biodiversity?
