Ecosystems and Biodiversity Lesson 5 : Michigan Time Machine
1. Evaluate student responses to the Michigan Time Machine Fact Find activity.
2. Ask students to list examples of: (a) three historical events they feel most negatively affected Michigan’s environment; and (b) three historical events they feel most positively affected Michigan’s environment.
3. Have students write a one- or two-paragraph essay describing an individual who could be considered a role model of environmental stewardship. In their writing, students should describe what actions the individual took that affected Michigan’s environment in a positive way.
Journal Assignment Idea
Time Capsule Letters: Students choose a date in time and then write a short letter from the perspective of someone who lived at that time, relating it to a significant event in Michigan’s environmental history. Later the letters can be read as other students guess the time period of the letter.
