Students will learn the basic principles of passive solar heating and how it is applied to home design. Students will then use Google SketchUp to design and create a passive solar addition to a home or they can design a small passive solar house.
In this lesson students will investigate the physical properties of matter, learn 4 important physical properties of soil commonly tested in agriculture production and rediscover the 3 components of soil used for the USDA soil classification system.
This lesson is part 2 in a 6 part unit on Biotechnology use in agriculture. It sets the foundation for the culminating project by teaching students about germination and the factors that effect germination. Students will be introduced to the factors that effect germination and then perform an experiment that allows them to evaluate germination rates.
During this lesson students will be exposed the requirements of plants for growth. Students will have the opportunity to become familiar with each requirement for plant growth, and what effect that requirement has on the plant.
Plant and Soil Science covers topics such as plant classification, physiology, reproduction, plant breeding, biotechnology, and pathology. Students will learn about soil management, water, pests, and equipment as well as cultural and harvest practices.
This lesson highlights the types of tillage methods commonly employed in agriculture and draws a correlation between the type of method and the physical properties of the soil.
Students will build on previous lessons to design their own agriscience fair experiment. These experiments can be used in a class, school, or FFA contest. This experiment is Lesson 4 of 4.
Student groups will design and complete the building of a tower- discovering the importance of writing a procedure to help solve agriculture challenges through research and innovation. They will also explore different areas of agriculture and continue to build their knowledge through brainstorming and class discussions.
This course combines classroom and community classroom instruction to prepare students for employment in the retail industry. Training will include elements of the sale, types of retailing, types of merchandise, customer relations, merchandising, pricing, inventory control, visual merchandising, operations, promotional elements, and human resources. Emphasis is placed on real world application of learning through work experience in the community. Employability skills emphasized include: preparing for employment, business attitudes, work habits and attendance.
This lesson will focus on web page planning, basic design, and layout of uploading images to web pages created by the student. Drawing material (colored paper, pencils, glue scissors) will be available for students wishing to create original artwork to upload.

This course is designed to teach individuals to perform marketing and management functions and tasks associated with owning and operating a small business. Students will develop a business plan, learn appropriate customer service and human relation skills and demonstrate positive work habits.
What elements make up the soil around us? Students will investigate the basics of atomic structure and discover how scientists use a soil sample to determine soil type.
In the first lesson of this project, students identified tillage systems and their effects on soil. This second lesson in the sequence identifies the role of cation exchange in soil fertility and examine the relationship between soil structure and cation exchange capacity.
After completing part 1 where students learned what soil texture is and how to plot the texture on the soil triangle, students will separate the individual soil particles in a lab situation and determine the % of each particle in an unknown sample and plot the sample on the soil triangle.
Students will learn how soil texture is important to agriculture. They will learn terms used and how to use the soil texture triangle to determine a soil's name or texture based on how much sand silt and clay are in the soil.
In this second lesson students will be introduced to different ways irrigation can be affected by environmental factors such as heat and soil types. This is a lab experiment that will require some prior planning and set up.
This course is designed to help students develop a general awareness of health careers and specific preparation for physical therapy and sports medicine occupations. Classroom instruction covers such topics as: medical terminology; human anatomy; emergency procedures; soft tissue and bone injuries; causes, symptoms and management of injuries; nutrition; physical fitness; and career opportunities. In addition to this ongoing classroom instruction, students will rotate through on-the-job training experiences with local physical therapists, chiropractors, athletic trainers, physical education instructors and recreational facility managers. Throughout this course, the studentsŐ core academic skills and ability to deal with people will be stressed.
This 2 day lesson includes a review on the twelve soil orders found on our planet and common soil testing procedures. Students will learn how to perform a soil ribbon test to determine the soil type, and measure the water holding capacity of a soil sample.
This final lesson in a sequence of lessons about tillage, agricultural practices and soil chemistry will combine all of the unit's content into a cohesive presentation that will prepare them for their summative course assessment. Course project soil data will serve as the foundation for the presentation.
