Third grade task cards for all seven MITECS and ISTE Standards for Students

PenPal Schools is a global learning community where teachers can foster global awareness and understanding of a variety of cultures. Students are able to practice reading and writing skills, learn more about digital literacy, and gain social and emotional learning skills. PenPal Schools connects students from over 144 countries to learn together through collaborative online projects! The website is a safe environment that only registered students and teachers can take part in.

Google Drive is a web based application that incorporates a system of file sharing. Word processing documents, spreadsheets, and slideshow presentations can be shared and edited with users whether they have a Google account or not. Document owners set the level of access for regulating permission for others to view, comment and/ or edit documents that are shared.

Problems get solved when people work together. Students will choose a problem or issue from their local community that needs a solution. They will create a Google Form that will be used to gather community opinions and perceptions to help create a solution to a local issue. Using a QR code, students will create posters with links to their Google Form and post them around the community. Once enough forms have been filled out students will use the data to create a presentation of the issue.

Students will create a short screencast that helps present a local or global issue to a wider audience. The screencast will include a voiced narration presenting an idea on how to solve the issue and requesting ideas in return. After considering the feedback received students will create a new screencast to present the ideas.

Students will obtain multiple viewpoints on the issue of bullying and brainstorm possible solutions, with peers, educators, and parents, via video-conferencing.

Ziteboard is a free online whiteboard with real-time collaboration. It can be used for brainstorming, presentation and communicating. Not only can you use tools that are provided, but pictures and voice can also be inserted.

Fourth grade is a perfect time for students to have an ePal! Students will be assigned a project to work on with a student from another town, state or country, practice their writing and language skills and work on problem solving skills.
