The 7th grade poetry unit gives an in depth approach to poetry involving the four strands within the core. I've included worksheets, rubrics, and answers keys where applicable. I have also used literature examples from the core.

In this learning object, students will learn what a summary and a paraphrase are. They will understand the basic differences between the two and will learn tips for writing successful summaries and paraphrases. Students will also be introduced to the one-hand model of summary writing.

To prepare for literature circles featuring historical novels, students research the decades of the 1930s to the 1990s and share their information using Prezi, a web application for creating multimedia presentations.

This LO explains the differences between quoting, paraphrasing, and summarizing. It restates the importance of citing sources and provides opportunities for student to practice.

As part of the 7th Grade Social Studies curriculum students will incorporate Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Mathematics (S.T.E.A.M) into unit various lessons. This lesson will specifically address the Ancient Egyptian unit in alignment with the class curriculum textbook: Discovering Our Past “A History of the World, Early Ages” McGraw-Hill Networks and various curricular standards. Students interest and excitement towards Egyptian history will be increased by the possibilities and opportunities offered by Minecraft. Students will conducted extended research of the mighty and mysterious pyramids and learn how and why people have built such magnificent structures.

After students have read Out of the Dust, they will create a Glogster. They will write about the theme, use their vocabulary words in writing, write using similes, metaphors, and personification in poetry, compare and contrast Billie Jo's experience to someone else in history, and be able to pick an option from a list. They will use their creativity to make their poster appealing to the reader.
