CK-12 Foundation's Algebra FlexBook is an introduction to algebraic concepts for the high school student. Topics include: Equations & Functions, Real Numbers, Equations of Lines, Solving Systems of Equations & Quadratic Equations.

This task was developed by high school and postsecondary mathematics and agriculture sciences educators, and validated by content experts in the Common Core State Standards in mathematics and the National Career Clusters Knowledge & Skills Statements. It was developed with the purpose of demonstrating how the Common Core and CTE Knowledge & Skills Statements can be integrated into classroom learning - and to provide classroom teachers with a truly authentic task for either mathematics or CTE courses.

This film features a cross-disciplinary project which resulted from a collaboration between a mathematics teacher and an art teacher, celebrating the beauty of both fields. Although its sub-title is Making Calculus Delicious, the math featured in the book is primarily geometry and algebra, with students creating artistic interpretations of mathematical concepts and formulas. The translation of mathematics to art promoted fresh conceptual discussion and creative thinking, and inspires consideration of the elegance in mathematics.

This task is the last in a series of three tasks that use inequalities in the same context at increasing complexity in 6th grade, 7th grade and in HS algebra. Students write and solve inequalities, and represent the solutions graphically. The progression of the content standards is 6.EE.8 to 7.EE.4 to A-REI.12.

This blended unit introduces students to linear inequalities and systems of inequalities. Students will algebraically and graphically verify solutions to linear inequalities and systems of linear inequalities.  Instruction and practice will be provided via Khan Academy.  As a capstone project, students will use linear programming to develop a diet plan for a celebrity; the diet plan requires students to research nutritional data and costs for two food products, while using linear programming to find the diet plan that satisfies the celebrity's daily nutritional needs at the lowest cost.

In this unit, students will learn how to use inverse operations to solve equations/inequalities containing variables, write equations/inequalities to represent real life situations, and simplify equations/inequalities before solving.

In this video lesson, students will learn about linear programming (LP) and will solve an LP problem using the graphical method. Its focus is on the famous "Stigler's diet" problem posed by the 1982 Nobel Laureate in economics, George Stigler. Based on his problem, students will formulate their own diet problem and solve it using the graphical method. The prerequisites to this lesson are basic algebra and geometry. The materials needed for the in-class activities include graphing paper and pencil. This lesson can be completed in one class of approximately one hour. If the teacher would like to cover the simplex algorithm by George Dantzig as an alternative solution method, an additional whole class period is suggested.

The typical system of equations or inequalities problem gives the system and asks for the graph of the solution. This task turns the problem around. It gives a solution set and asks for the system that corresponds to it. The purpose of this task is to give students a chance to go beyond the typical problem and make the connections between points in the coordinate plane and solutions to inequalities and equations. Students have to focus on what the graph is showing.
