This video features a project that shows how Common Core math standards can be addressed in work that is engaging and compelling for students and connects to real-life. The project asks students to imagine their life 20 years in the future. There is a literacy component (written sections), but the math work—the focus of this video—involves projecting future finances such as income, loans, expenses, and taxes.

In this learning object, students will learn what a summary and a paraphrase are. They will understand the basic differences between the two and will learn tips for writing successful summaries and paraphrases. Students will also be introduced to the one-hand model of summary writing.

Cactus gardens, relict plant communities of white fir and chaparral and the densest, largest Joshua tree forest are all found here.

In this lesson, students take on the role of a county official tasked with spreading awareness of the disaster. Using imagery of the affected area, they create a web mapping application that allows users to easily compare the area before and after the disaster. Users should also to be able to measure the extent of the impact. Lastly, the app should link to additional material about the landslide.
