Use addition and subtraction within 20 to solve word problems
An interactive applet and associated web page that show the concept of adjacent angles (two angles that share a common leg). The applet shows three line segments with a common endpoint. The user can move the center one and see that the angles on both sides (the adjacent angles) of it are affected. Applet can be enlarged to full screen size for use with a classroom projector. After use in the classroom, students can access it again from any web browser at home or in the library with no login required. Students will use the Census Business Builder: Small Business Edition data access tool to gather and analyze information that entrepreneurs may consider when opening a business. This introductory activity assumes that students have limited experience using data access tools.

This is a cross-curricular activity that uses the story Alexander, Who Used to Be Rich Last Sunday to practice money and decimal skills in addition to reading and writing skills. After reading or hearing the story, students will complete the attached worksheet. (If it's read aloud, students would need a way to refer back to the story to answer the questions. The worksheet has a mixture of reading and math questions. It can be edited if you choose. It can be used for either 3rd or 4th grade. With slight modifications, it could also be used for middle school EL students to learn about currency.
