This is a lesson plan for teaching Middle School students how to consume media with a critical eye. Students will learn how to analyze various aspects of media to decode its real meaning and they will learn to identify tactics that mislead consumers.
This is a collection of over 20 task cards for makerspace tools. Each editable card includes a short description of the task for helping the user learn to use the resource, tips for using the resource, and a collection of links to resources. The task cards were created using Google Slides, set to a standard 8.5" x 11" size for easy printing.
As part of the 7th Grade Social Studies curriculum students will incorporate Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Mathematics (S.T.E.A.M) into unit various lessons. This lesson will specifically address the Ancient Egyptian unit in alignment with the class curriculum textbook: Discovering Our Past “A History of the World, Early Ages” McGraw-Hill Networks and various curricular standards. Students interest and excitement towards Egyptian history will be increased by the possibilities and opportunities offered by Minecraft. Students will conducted extended research of the mighty and mysterious pyramids and learn how and why people have built such magnificent structures.

This lesson focuses on the availability of freshwater on Earth. Students review the basic terms and processes associated with the water cycle, play a game to determine the percentage of the Earth’s surface covered by water, work together in groups to estimate the distribution of water in the various locations on Earth where it is found, and discover how much fresh water is available on Earth for human use.
This lesson builds on students’ prior knowledge of the water cycle. The teacher creates a watershed model to demonstrate runoff. Next, students locate their watershed on Michigan’s Water World poster and determine into which Great Lake their watershed empties. Lastly, they investigate how streamflow characteristics vary between Michigan rivers depending upon watershed size, time of year, and other factors.
