In this learning object, students will learn how to format in-text citations and reference list entries for print and online newspapers.

This course studies the relations of affect to cognition and behavior, feeling to thinking and acting, and values to beliefs and practices. These connections will be considered at the psychological level of organization and in terms of their neurobiological and sociocultural counterparts.

This class analyzes complex biological processes from the molecular, cellular, extracellular, and organ levels of hierarchy. Emphasis is placed on the basic biochemical and biophysical principles that govern these processes. Examples of processes to be studied include chemotaxis, the fixation of nitrogen into organic biological molecules, growth factor and hormone mediated signaling cascades, and signaling cascades leading to cell death in response to DNA damage. In each case, the availability of a resource, or the presence of a stimulus, results in some biochemical pathways being turned on while others are turned off. The course examines the dynamic aspects of these processes and details how biochemical mechanistic themes impinge on molecular/cellular/tissue/organ-level functions. Chemical and quantitative views of the interplay of multiple pathways as biological networks are emphasized. Student work will culminate in the preparation of a unique grant application in an area of biological networks.

This is the culminating lesson for Battle of the Seeds. In this lesson, students will evaluate the effectiveness of different types of weed control (none, manual and chemical) and different types of seed (genetically modified and non-genetically modified). They will then utilize the information from this lab to perform a cost-analysis and determine which type of seed and weed control gives the best outcome financially.

Our final chapter in 2nd grade is all about history - how we study it and how we learn about places - especially our community. The authors recognized early on that it would be impossible for us to write a community history for every community in Michigan, so we continue with our study of two - a small town and a larger town. Our hope is that you’ll have students make connections between these two featured communities and their own. How are they alike? How are they different?

With prior knowledge of food and organic matter decomposition, students will use industry and extension publications to learn the processes of composting, as well as the benefits and challenges of compost production (available nutrient levels, community perceptions, hazardous materials, smell, and storage).

Students will be able to create a complete resume representing their skills, experience, and educational background that will make them employable in todayŐs workforce. Students will create a resume using a Microsoft Word resume template.

This course introduces students to the writing process as a means of developing ideas into clear, correct, and effective writing.

This is a writing assignment designed specifically for the special education setting.  It involves having the students watch a high-interest video with teacher supported discussion.  Students will use the information from the video along with three informational articles that they read.  One article is provided for them.  They need to find two articles on their own and read them.  There are no citation requirements for this paper, however, that could easily be added.

This could easily be modified for the general education classroom adding the following Standards:  RI5, RI6, RI7, W4, W7, and W8.

During days 3-6 of the unit, students will complete a short, focused research assignment to learn about the characteristics of Sourthern Gothic Literature and to begin to view To Kill a Mockingbird through that lens. Student's objective in this project is to ensure the programs are offered where they're most needed. To do so, students create a map by adding and enriching a layer of ZIP Codes with demographic data from ArcGIS Online. They also apply smart mapping and style the layer to show median household income by ZIP Code area. Then, they change the layer style to show median household income and child population, to identify which areas have the most children living in poverty. Students also configure the pop-ups to make the demographic information easier to read. Lastly, they report their findings to top donors and partner organizations by configuring a web app that tells a clear story based on their data.

Designing the school garden will require Math, ELA, and Science skills with Scientific Method being used as a foundation. Students will create a school garden as a result of the work they preloaded into the activity. Finally, students will decide if the school garden has an improvements needed for future growth or more growth.

The Glyfada Method is a formula to help students write essays by focusing on the most difficult part of an assignment: getting started. This method helps the writer discover what their main points are and what they have to say about each main point.

This lesson plan asks students to read To Kill A Mockingbird carefully with an eye for all instances and manifestations of courage, but particularly those of moral courage.

Students will design a survey to explore their classmates' feelings and experiences with bullying. Once the class has participated in the survey, they will analyze the data, discussing implications and how they can improve/build classroom community.

This film features a book of essays and photographs by eleventh grade students at High Tech High of famous and little-known heroes who inspired the student authors, paired with black & white self-portraits. It demonstrates the power of publishing a real book for a real audience—raising the stakes for students for the quality of their individual and collaborative work, putting literacy standards in service of creating work of meaning and value.

The Civilian Conservation Corps, a New Deal recovery and relief program provided more than a quarter of a million young black men with jobs during the Depression. By examining primary source documents students analyze the impact of this program on race relations in America and assess the role played by the New Deal in changing them.
